The Choral Art Society is pleased to announce that once again a scholarship will be offered to a
graduating senior from the South Shore who plans to pursue music as a major in college. This
year, the scholarship award will be in the amount of $1000.00, and is intended to help support a
student who is applying for further study in any area of music concentration, including theory,
composition, music management and merchandising, conducting, history, literature,
The opportunity to apply is being offered in the South Shore communities of Cohasset, Duxbury,
Hingham, Hanover, Hull, Kingston, Marshfield, Norwell, Pembroke, Plymouth, and Scituate. We
are aware of the many talented and young individuals on the South Shore, and look forward to
reading their applications and learning of the personal factors that have inspired them to become
As has been done in the past, we will announce the name of this year's recipient at our spring
concert which will take place on May 6, 2018 at 4:00. At that time, we will perform a few
wonderful short pieces by Viennese composers - Mozart Vespers (K339), Schubert Magnificat,
Beethoven "Hallelujah" from The Mount of Olives, and Haydn Te Deum. The scholarship
recipient should plan to attend that concert to receive the award. Location to be announced.
The award will be mailed to the student's educational institution after the successful completion
of the first semester of the student's freshman year as a music major.
